I play and teach violin, specialising in folk fiddle. I am particularly involved with English traditional music, and I aim to encourage people of all ages to learn and play the music together.

Performer
My band Jigfoot creates inventive and sometimes spontaneous arrangements of traditional English dance tunes, performing for concerts and dances. I also play with baroque chamber group Quattrio and with singer/songwriter Joe Cunio as botyov1791.

Music leader
I lead Southampton Folk Orchestra, a series of workshops to learn, arrange and perform folk tunes that are connected with the local area, and Let's Try Folk Fiddle, an introductory fiddle group at the Art House for players of all levels. I teach violin to adult beginners and intermediate learners, and players of other styles who would like to play folk.

Folk activist
I coordinate two local sessions, one to explore traditional English folk tunes and another to revive and reinvigorate the tradition of southern stepdancing in Hampshire. I organise and play for monthly folk dance sessions for over 50s at Freemantle Community Centre, and in my spare time I dance with Wickham Morris.

I am on the organising team for Romsey Beggars Fair, and founded musicians' cooperative Melting Pot.

Day job
Two days a week I work as an advice worker at City Life Education and Action for Refugees, a small charity that helps asylum seekers and refugees.

Jigfoot create inventive arrangements of English dance music and are an ideal band for a celebratory ceilidh or barn dance. All of the band either dance or play regularly for dancing, and understand how the music and the dance work together. We work with our caller, Pete Gritton, and can offer a package of band, caller and PA system suitable for small or large parties and events. "The dances were different, the calling fun and the music was absolutely gorgeous ... it’s that genre of 'can’t stand still music'”

I teach violin to adult beginners and intermediate learners, and players of other styles who would like to play folk. Lessons are at my home in central Southampton and start from £12.
