If you are fascinated by the Tudors or enjoy watching Versailles, come along to this roundtable style talk to hear more about intrigue, love and (political) rivalry at the English and French courts during the Renaissance. Noted academics Dr Carole Levin, Dr Joanne Paul, Dr Estelle Paranque and Dr Jonathan Spangler along with best-selling author Nicola Tallis will share their fascinating research on royal favourites and mistresses in the Tudor, Valois and Bourbon courts.
East Meon was chosen as ‘The Domesday Village’ because it still reflects the layout of the medieval settlement with its magnificent Norman church and Court Hall. Learn more about the historic village of East Meon with this walk led by East Meon History Group.
This walk starts at 230pm and meets at the East Meon Village Hall, just off Workhouse Lane.
Tickets £5 (£4 members) Kids: Free.
Beating the Bounds is an ancient custom where a group from the community would walk the boundary of the parish. Whilst there is no recorded evidence that this ceremony took place in Petersfield, there are maps that show the ancient boundaries of the borough and parish.
Our walk will perambulate this 4 mile route stopping at intervals to explain the historic connections that formed the boundary and its future expansion into the town we know today. Meets outside Petersfield Museum 1430.
This talk, given by local historian and author David Jeffery, will look at the profound changes that Petersfield has gone through from its rural past to its commercial present. Based on the research of his latest book ‘Petersfield at Work, David will explore the changes seen by the town in the 20th century.
